American Airlines has been named the 2009 winner of the Diversity Initiative Achievement Award by the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF).
Since 2003, American Airlines has more than doubled its spending with minority and women owned law firms. The Dallas-based airline has had a Minority Counsel Program for more than two decades and its Legal Department has been an active participant in diversity-related initiatives with other legal organizations. The company sponsors a pro bono program that provides free legal services to minority communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and participates in a mentoring program for minority law students at the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
"At American Airlines, we know that diversity is absolutely essential to our success," said Andrea Clark, American Airlines Senior Employment Attorney and NAMWOLF Advisory Council Member. "We have made a long-term commitment to diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our business, and we are pleased and proud to be honored for our efforts by NAMWOLF."
The 2009 Diversity Initiative Achievement Award will be presented to American Airlines at the NAMWOLF Annual Meeting and Law Firm Expo in Chicago on October 7th.
"At American Airlines, diversity is more than just a goal," said Yolanda Coly, NAMWOLF Managing Director. "Diversity is the way the company does business. We are deeply grateful for American Airlines' commitment to diversity in the legal profession and proud to count them as a NAMWOLF partner in this important endeavor."
