There's allegedly a secret to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's on-screen chemistry in the upcoming "Deadpool & Wolverine" blockbuster: The chemistry is real.
In an interview with Variety, the co-stars and longtime friends gushed about how their real-life chemistry off-screen spilled into the superhero film. And as you'd expect, there were a lot of laughs.
"I can't speak for Wolverine, but I feel like Deadpool has sexual tension with everything and everyone," said Reynolds, which makes sense because the character is famously pansexual.
However, Jackman chimed in: "Don't deny this is special."
Which made Reynolds course correct to add, "You're right. I feel it right now. My God, like two magnets facing the wrong direction."
Director Shawn Levy added some levity and insight to the situation.
'Wade is a fan of the Wolverine," said Levy, referring to Deadpool's alter ego, Wade Wilson. "He drives [Wolverine] crazy off-screen and on. But there's a reverence. There's a fanboy love."
In turn, Reynolds talked about his fanboy love for Jackman's long-term turn as the character Wolverine, including in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," in which they both starred.
"Hugh was a huge influence on me. It was the first time I saw how a movie star operates on set, and it defied all the preconceived notions for a movie star," said Reynolds. "He was so warm and welcoming. He made it safe to play. He knew every single person's name."
And soon we will get to see how all that chemistry plays out on screen when the film hits theaters on July 26.
