Interstellar

If there's any director who will pioneer the new 4K Ultra HD format as something admired by both mainstream audiences and cinephiles alike, it's Christopher Nolan.

The filmmaker has already released his 2017 70mm opus on the format, and the result was downright stunning. The same is true for the new re-release of Nolan's "Interstellar" on 4K, which gives us perhaps one of the most visually admirable 4K releases to date.
"Interstellar" marked Nolan's first collaboration with cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, who also helmed the photography for "Dunkirk." Together, the visual artists created something that was at once a blatant homage to Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" and invigoratingly original.

Shot with both 35mm and IMAX cameras, this film looks downright incredible in the 4K format, bringing an overwhelmingly theatrical experience to the comforts of one's living room. The space scenes are awe-inspiring. The planets are daunting yet delicate in a painterly kind-of way; The blackness is deeper than most 4K releases. Quite simply, this is what a 4K Ultra HD release should look like.

Nolan's attention to detail is hugely beneficial here, as both the visuals and audio offer cinema-quality presentation specs. The only arena where this 4K release lacks is in its bonus features, with a lot carried over from the film's previous Blu-ray incarnation. These include featurettes such as:
