Penny Dreadful - The Final Season
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.
It's time to say bye-bye to one of the Showtime network's most original series to date. "Penny Dreadful - The Final Season" sadly aired its most recent episodes, nine of them in fact. And now they're here in a 3-disc collection from Paramount to watch just in time for horror film/show season.
The swan song season take a more visceral approach this time and becomes even more historic. Shining the most in "Penny Dreadful - The Final Season" belongs to actress Eva Green, now my new favorite horror actress. Her character Vanessa Ives goes through an even deeper metamorphosis than in season two. She seeks the help of a stoic doctor (Patti Lupone) who tries to aid Vanessa in accepting the demons locked inside of her.
Meanwhile the other literary characters of "Penny Dreadful," Dorian Gray, Dr. Frankenstein, Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett), and the tortured Creature all must finally come face to face with their monstrous sides.
It's unfortunate the show has to end and each season only featured a scant number of episodes. "Penny Dreadful - The Final Season" is no exception. Thankfully, the show wraps up nicely but does make room for possible future shows.
Like the previous two seasons on Blu-ray, the final season of "Penny Dreadful" offers up some decent special features fare. Most are behind-the-scenes looks at the costumes and sets on the show, such as "Hecate's Witch Prosthetics," "The Making of Dr. Jeckyll's Lab," and "Vanessa's Costumes." Others profile the characters of "Penny Dreadful," ones that will be sorely missed now that the series has faded to black.
