Girls - The Complete Fourth Season

Separation and sobriety dominate "Girls: The Complete Fourth Season." That may be the reason you can easily play on your phone through most of the episodes. Nevertheless, there are moments you'll want to rewind and watch again.

Hannah (Lena Dunham) decides that maybe New York isn't the center of the universe. Maybe she can really learn and grow by breaking free from the walls of the city and venturing into the provincial world of Iowa. But this isn't a half-ass, impulsive idea like most of the decisions that Hannah makes. She's been accepted into the prestigious Iowa Writer's Workshop. It's a move that could really advance her talent and career.

Unfortunately, everything is going really well between her and Adam. Will she have the independence to face life on her own?

Is it distance or temperance that make "Girls" lose some of its edge in Season Four? The fact is two of the show's most unstable characters, Adam (Adam Driver) and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) go to AA and start putting their lives together. But God doesn't grant Jessa the serenity to stop messing with her friend's heads and instigating conflicts.

Adam, on the other hand, really seems to get it together once Hannah leaves town and he settles down with another woman. Still his relationship with Mimi-Rose Howard (Gillian Jacobs),and the speed with which he goes into it, sends Hannah into a tailspin.

In one of the Season's most profound moments, Adam calls Hannah "kid" in that adorable, heartfelt way that we've grow accustom to over the years. And the devastated Hannah says, "You don't have the right to call me that anymore."

The very picture of perfectly a composed fuck-up, Marnie (Allison Williams) really begins to make strides in her folk singing career. The best part of her artistry is that it's so closely tied to her creative and sexual partner Desi (the desperately sexy Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The quality of their music really seems to grow from the fact that he is completely dedicated to regularly going down on her, and he's so damn good at it. The fact that Desi is in a committed relationship with another woman is only a slight impediment.

One of the series' most kooky characters, Shoshannah (Zosia Mamet) faces the realities of the real word as she graduates and begins to interview for jobs. What she learns from this experience may help her sort out her relationship with the ever-volatile Ray (Alex Karovsky).

Elijah (Andrew Rannells), Hannah's flighty BFF, will not let miles or maturity kill his buzz. He hops a plane to Iowa and becomes Hannah's roommate again.

Horny, closeted undergrads; you can't beat 'em. Well actually you can. And Elijah does that at every house party he attends.

Speaking of horny and closeted, someone very dear to Hannah reveals an important secret that will forever change the way she looks at him.

Season Four's two disc Blu-ray collection features deleted and extended scenes, gag reels, a look inside the creation of the season and two of Marnie's musical performances.
