Palm Beach Church Event Celebrates Marriage, Skypes Reverend of First Same-sex Marriage

The performer of the first public same-sex wedding in the U.S. will be one of seven guests to speak at an event at the Palm Beach Metropolitan Community Church.
On Monday at 7 p.m. the Metropolitan Community Church of Palm Beach will celebrate marriage with its event, "Nothing's Going to Stop Us Now," which will have speakers and music.
During the event at the church, 4875 Northlake Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens, members of the National Organization for Women, Equality Florida and Compass Gay and Lesbian Community Center will voice their support for marriage.
Lea Brown, a pastor at the MCC of Palm Beach, said it's a good way to get people excited about the events happening the next day.
"It's going to be an event to really remind us to be together," she said, "remind us of the power we have together, to bless people's marriages and love in all its forms in the community and get people ready for the next day and celebrating."
On Tuesday, church members will gather at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Palm BeachCounty Courthouse, 205 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, to celebrate or rally.
"We'll be urging them to do the right thing if they say they won't get the licenses," Brown said.
Everyone is welcome to attend both events.
The church reminds couples who want to get married to complete a four-hour Premarital Preparation Course before Jan. 6. On Saturday at 9 a.m. the MCCPB will be offering the course for free.
They also urge others to contact local clerks and remind them of their obligation to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
