Gay and Lesbian Rights Group Keeps Wyoming Staffed

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - One of the country's largest gay and lesbian rights organizations says it will permanently station staffers in Wyoming.

The Human Rights Campaign says it will advocate on behalf of the state's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and will promote same-sex marriage in the state.

Brad Clark, a spokesman for the group, tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that the group wants to end the discrimination and harassment faced by people in Wyoming.

Clark says affordable access to HIV care and the rights of gays and lesbians to adopt children are other priorities.

Several lawmakers and religious leaders say they support the group's efforts. State Rep. Dan Zwonitzer, a Cheyenne Republican, says he hopes the Human Rights Campaign will help establish a resource and support network for gays and lesbians.
