Wyoming Judge Weighs Immediate Gay Marriage Ruling

A Wyoming judge is about to decide whether to immediately rule against a state law that specifies marriage is limited to one man and one woman.

Laramie County District Court Judge Thomas Campbell is set to hear arguments Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by four gay couples and a gay-rights advocacy group.

The plaintiffs argue recent federal court rulings that uphold gay marriage should allow them to prevail without further argument.

Attorneys for the state continue to defend Wyoming's marriage law. They say Campbell should stay further proceedings in the case pending federal appeals on the recent rulings in other states.

The rulings include a one out of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver that upheld gay marriage in Utah.
