Broadway Legend Elaine Stritch Dies at 89

Broadway legend Elaine Stritch, the symbol to many of the durability of old show business grit, died Thursday at her home in her native Michigan. She was 89.

Stritch was best known to audiences west of the Hudson for the reoccurring scene stealing role of Alec Baldwin's mother Colleen on the NBC sitcom "30 Rock." That part that would earn the actress her third Emmy Award.

Stritch's roots were in the theater, performing in numerous Broadway hits including "Bus Stop", "Company", "A Delicate Balance", "Show Boat" and "A Little Night Music." She was nominated for the Tony Award five times. In 2002, she won for Best Theatrical Special Event for her one-woman autobiographical event "Elaine Stritch At Liberty."

A candid documentary of Stritch's last months as a resident of Manhattan's Carlye Hotel, titled "Just Shoot Me" was released in 2013.
