Arizona Legislators Killed Several Controversial Bills

The Arizona Legislature killed several controversial bills before adjourning last week.

They include another religious rights bill that would have allowed priests and justices of the peace to decline to officiate over gay weddings. A similar bill that would have allowed businesses to discriminate against gays and others based on religious beliefs was vetoed by Gov. Jan Brewer.

Another bill that died this year would have banned cellphone use on the road by teen drivers for the first six months they hold a license. One that also died would have stymied undercover investigations on farms by animal-rights activists.

Brewer has already signed and vetoed more than 250 bills and has over 40 more to consider.
