Log Cabin Republicans Miffed Over Sexy LGBT Targeted Obamacare Ad

In a move that many on the left would consider a desperate attempt to appeal to anti-gay conservatives within their own party, today Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) issued a press release denouncing an online video PSA by Out 2 Enroll which aimed to promote awareness among LGBT people about the Affordable Care Act.

The statement released by LCR, which easily could be confused with a One Million Mom's campaign, read as follows.

"Today Log Cabin Republicans, the only LGBT advocacy organization on the Obamacare Repeal Coalition, denounced a video advertisement by Out2Enroll exploiting gay stereotypes to encourage gay men to enroll in the Affordable Care Act.

This cynical ad betrays the depths Obamacare advocates will sink to in order to pad their pathetic enrollment numbers," Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo declared. "As a self-proclaimed 'fierce advocate' of gay equality, President Obama would do well to distance himself from this nonsense and denounce it immediately. This ad is also an example of the left promoting harmful stereotypes that gay men are nothing more than sex-crazed lechers. If anyone on the right made such a comparison, liberals would be apoplectic. At a time when left-wing propagandists are decrying 'Duck Dynasty''s Phil Robertson for equating homosexuality with promiscuity and deviance, Out2Enroll and others should take a look in the mirror and ask if the truth is that they are the ones responsible for promoting such harmful stereotypes."

The video in question which features a female lounge singer performing "Get Enrolled" to the tune of the holiday song "Let it Snow," displays four go-go boy types in spandex shorts and skimpy holiday accessories dancing and frolicking. It was produced and released by Out 2 Enroll, a collaboration between the Sellers Dorssey Foundation, the Center for American Progress and the Federal Agencies Project whose aim is to provide a resource for LGBT persons seeking help in maneuvering the Affordable Care Act as well as finding ways to break down the walls of health care disparities, especially among people of color.

In October, the GA Voice reported that Kellan Baker, associate director for the LGBT Research and Communications Project at the Center for American Progress, said Out 2 Enroll is not about "putting a rainbow flag" on the Affordable Care Act.??"We commissioned research of the experiences of LGBT people living under 400 percent of poverty level. The results were striking," he said. "There is an additional layer of skepticism, LGBT people and especially transgender people said they faced discrimination, and people reported having trouble with getting their partner and kids covered through their job."

This latest incident with Out 2 Enroll isn't the first time Log Cabin Republicans have come to loggerheads with with LGBT advocacy groups. On Thursday, in response to GLAAD's reaction to "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson's history of anti-gay comments, LCR's Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo indirectly denounced GLAAD by issuing the following statement.

"What Phil Robertson's comments highlight is the need to engage the evangelical Christian community on the importance of gay acceptance. The knee-jerk reaction from the left shows that their strategy to engage evangelicals is to ignore them or shout them down, but that's no way to win allies. Rather than see this controversy as the potential end of a career, it should be the start of a conversation - one that's been long overdue between the evangelical and the gay communities. In the spirit of the Christmas season, let's remember to love our neighbor."

On Friday, LCR issued the following follow-up statement

"Following the fallout from a recent interview in which Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson criticized gay Americans while citing his religious beliefs, and the Robertson family's subsequent statement suggesting his suspension from the show could end their relationship with A&E, Log Cabin Republicans has suggested mediating this dispute with a 'Moonshine Summit'.

Let's put an end to all of the fussing and feuding and talk about this like adults," Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo stated. "Phil, you have your views and we have ours, but I think you'd be surprised how much we all have in common, and there's no better gay folk out there to make that case than Log Cabin Republicans. We're conservative, we're guided by our faith, and we believe in freedom of speech. Most important, we are all children of God; that's the most important thing we have in common. So in the spirit of the season, let's get together - your family and ours -�raise a glass, and work this out."
