Gay Marriage Opponents to Rally, Lobby Lawmakers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Opponents of gay marriage legislation are traveling to Springfield to rally and lobby Illinois lawmakers to vote against the legislation.
The "Defend Marriage Lobby Day" will begin Wednesday with a prayer service. It'll be followed by a rally and a "Jericho walk" around the capitol. Monsignor Carl Kemme of the Springfield's Roman Catholic Diocese will be one of the featured speakers. Various churches from across the state are chartering buses to take gay marriage opponents to the event.
The rally is sponsored by the Illinois Family Institute. It follows Tuesday's "March on Springfield" protest by gay marriage supporters.
Same-sex marriage legislation passed the state Senate in February but has not been called in the House. Gay marriage activists say they're a handful of votes short.
