Boy George DJs in Boston & Providence on U.S. Tour

In conjunction with the release of his first CD in two decades, Boy George has embarked on a DJ tour of the United States and Canada over the next two months.

First up is Boston and Providence, which will be getting a visit from the 1980s icon on Sept. 28 and 29.

The pop music star-turned-DJ will be spinning at Epic at the House of Blues in Boston on Sept. 28, then at EGO Nightclub in Providence on Sept. 29. Boy George is supported by DJ Marc Vedo as part of their US/Canadian tour, which takes him to such cities as Seattle, Winnipeg, Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago and Dallas.

Boy George also is releasing "'This Is What I Do," his first CD in two decades on Oct. 28. According to his Facebook page, "'This Is What I Do' is produced by Richie Stevens (Soul II Soul, Tina Turner, Simply Red, Culture Club) and mixed by Dave Bascombe (Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode, Pendulum, Doves) and features brand new songs written by Boy George. The album features many guest musicians, some of whom are expected to appear as George's band on his live dates."

The Boston and Providence dates are said to have put an end to the feud between the performer and Harris, Boston and Providence's preeminent party promoter.

"You know, I'd like to say that our little tiff a few years ago was just a massive promotional build up to this moment, and, frankly, I won't deny it. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither have been some of my greatest successes," Harris told Get Magazine.

"Patience, perseverance and a little behind the scenes maneuvering have proven to be my MO for years, and this is just another opus in my portfolio of symphonies. I just hope we can meet the demand of our shared fans!"

Boy George, nee George O'Dowd, made a huge splash in the '80s, as Get writer Tony Giampetruzzi notes, "cavorting about in thrift shop moo moos, full makeup and those hokey hair rags." His hits included "Kissing to Be Clever," "Karma Chameleon," "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" and "Church of the Poison Mind."

Fast forward through nearly three decades of some titillating run-ins with the law, an uneven recording career and a stint in "Taboo" on Broadway, and George is back. While still recording, he has spent the past decade returning to his original roots as an auteur of club music and a master of the decks.

"As a DJ and a pop artist, I've always prided myself on never being loyal to only one sound," George once told Billboard Magazine.

According to his official bio, George has been a DJ since the late '70s, enjoying a long and successful career associated with house music stemming from early acid house and Chicago grooves in the '80s, to electro and tech house in the '90s and '00s. He has played at some of the world's most iconic venues such as Manchester's legendary The Ha�ienda, Shelleys in Stoke and Paul Oakenfold's Spectrum at Heaven in London.

Since then George has maintained a constant touring schedule, "notching up hundreds of thousands of air miles and taking in far-reaching, international destinations from the snow-capped mountains of Vancouver to the golden sun-kissed sands of Bondi beach to the, um, ego-centric Providence."

Now, this author of two bestselling autobiographies, fashion label owner of B-Rude outlets in New York, Los Angeles and London and member of the world's designer fashion hierarchy -- DJing regularly at post catwalk shows such as Versace, Phillip Treacy and Hugo Boss -- brings his formidable skills to Providence.

"All I can say is that it's about time," said Harris. "I've brought my share of superstars to this city, but it's been a while since I've had the chance to bring one of the biggest stars of the past century to New England. I'd like to say 'It's a miracle,' but, well, I make miracles happen all time. So just come and enjoy."

Boy George and Marc Vedo will be at Epic at the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street in Boston on Sept. 28, then will spin the next night (Sept. 29) at EGO Nightclub, 73 Richmond St. in Providence, RI.
