WASHINGTON - A graduation ceremony honoring students who were brought to the United States without legal permission will also include a wedding between an activist and her same-sex partner.
The "National DREAM Graduation" is held annually at a church in Washington in support of children who are unable to go to college because their parents are living in the country illegally.
This year's ceremony will be held Tuesday morning and will include a wedding between activist Prerna Lal and her partner, who is a United States citizen. The wedding is meant to highlight the recent Supreme Court decision that allows same-sex married couples to receive federal benefits, including green cards. Lal is a co-founder of an organization that advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people who don't have lawful immigration status.
