Over the past few years, Miami has built a reputation as a place that is gay-friendly and full of action. From clubs to restaurants and festivals, there is plenty out there celebrating the Gay and Lesbian community, including being the location of the annual White Party.

Now, the Lucky Strike Lanes and the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce are doing their best to build on that reputation. They recently approached Edison Farrow of the South Beach Social Club about organizing the Miami Beach Gay Bowling League.

Farrow predicts this will be a fun and great way to meet people.

"I am just happy to add another fun activity to the gay community. The response has been incredible. One day after announcing the leagues, we are almost full," said Farrow.

The league will begin on September 7, 2008 and end on Election Day. During this time, teams of four will meet at the Lucky Strike Lanes every Tuesday.

To take part, you must be at least 21 years old. All participants are expected to pay their fee of $19.00 a week in advance ($190.00 total).

The fee allows two games per week as well as shoe rental and taxes. Originally, there were going to be only 14 teams. Due to the response, organizers have decided to expand to 28 teams. Teams can chose to play either from 7-9 PM or 9-11 PM.

Farrow has promised that there will be some wonderful prizes awarded to the top three teams in the league. Participants will also be allowed to watch all the election news on closing night on any of the many big screen TVs at the venue.

If you would like to take part in the Miami Beach Gay Bowling League, or you have questions about it, please contact Edison Farrow at [email protected].

The Lucky Strike Lanes are located at 1691 Michigan Avenue in Miami Beach and will be the home of Martini Tuesdays for the 10-week run of the league.

Usually, the weekly cocktail party is held at a different location each week. It is also organized by Farrow and the South Beach Social Club.

The South Beach Social Club organizes various parties and events at South Florida hotspots for the Gay and Lesbian community.
