In 15th Season, 'Grey's Anatomy' Casts its First Gay Male Surgeon

The popular ABC drama "Grey's Anatomy" is headed into its 15th season and the show is making headlines this week for finally casting its first openly gay male surgeon, TVLine reports.

Hunky actor Alex Landi will play Dr. Nico Kim, the first out male surgeon at Seattle's Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, in a recurring role.

On Instagram, Landi thanked "Grey's Anatomy" fans for their support of him joining the series.

Created by Shonda Rhimes and debuting in 2005, "Grey's Anatomy" has had its share of LGBTQ characters, including Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), who is bisexual, and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), who was lesbian.

The new season of "Grey's Anatomy" kicks off on Sept. 27 on ABC.
