Sarah Paulson Admits This 'American Horror Story' Season Is Her Least Favorite: 'I Was so Underwhelmed'
Sarah Paulson has appeared on almost every season of the long-running series "American Horror Story" but she recently revealed which installment of the anthology she likes the least.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast, Paulson, who first appeared on the show's inaugural "Murder House" season, confessed that Season 6's "Roanoke" installment "underwhelmed" her.
"I just don't care about this season at all," she admitted. "I know people will get mad at me for saying it, but for me, this was post having played Marcia [Clark on 'The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story'] and it was what I went to do right after finishing Marcia.
"I was so underwhelmed by the whole experience because I felt like I had entered into a new place inside of myself in terms of what I thought possible, in terms of what I might be willing to see if I can do," Paulson went on to say. "I felt really kind of trapped by my responsibility and my contractual obligation to do 'American Horror Story.' As much as it's my home, and I've loved it always, it was the first time I felt like I wish I could have gone to Ryan and said, 'Please let me sit this one out.'"
In "AHS: Roanoke," which premiered in 2016, Paulson plays the aloof British star Audrey Tindall, who gets cast in a series within the show titled "My Roanoke Nightmare," which dramatized a paranormal event on which the season is centered. During that same season, Paulson also reprised her "AHS: Asylum" character Lana Winters.
Though she skipped out on "AHS: 1984," the ninth season of the FX show, Paulson will be returning to for Season 10, "AHS: Double Feature," which debuts on August 25.
