A man from St. Petersburg, Fla. went to a friend's house looking for sex last week but the encounter turned violent, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Pinellas Country Sheriff's Office said Mark Kimball, 54, visited his friend Michael Drake for sex last Thursday. Kimball said that Drake, 38, attacked him with a knife and cut his neck several times before leaving.

Kimball was left alone in his friend's house and wrapped a towel around his neck. He then left the home, seeking help and was found a few houses up the street, where a nearby homeowner called the authorities.

Five hours after Kimball was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police were searching for Drake. They soon received a call about a robbery in progress nearby. Cops found Drake at an acquaintance's house, who didn't want him at their home, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Drake admitted to the attack on Kimball, according to police. The authorities also discovered a 10-to-12-inch kitchen knife from his home, the newspaper reports.

Drake was charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder. Authorities said Kimball is still recovering from the wounds but is expected to survive.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Drake was arrested in the past on battery and battery by strangulation charges.
