Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Who says that aliens always have to look like what we've seen time after time in sci-fi and horror movies? Aliens could actually come to Earth looking like circus clowns and that's exactly the premise of the 1988 giggle-fest known as "Killer Klowns from Outer Space". It tanked upon its initial release but over the years, "Killer Klowns" has garnered a cult following. It's a visual extravaganza, thanks in large part to Arrow Video's stunning 4k restoration. Circus alien clowns have never looked so colorful before.
A few years before Pennywise the killer clown from "It" would grace the TV and movie screen, murderous aliens came to earth disguised as mischievous clowns to wreak havoc on a small town. That's basically the minimal plot in "Killer Klowns from Outer Space". It's up to boyfriend and girlfriend Mike (Grant Cramer, "New Years' Evil") and Debbie (Suzanne Synder, "Weird Science") to try and stop them. Naturally, local authorities think they're bananas.
After residents keep disappearing in cotton candy cocoons and getting killed by popcorn guns, Mike and Debbie take matters into their own hands. Featuring virtually no blood and minimal violence, "Killer Klowns" is a rare horror/comedy that wants to entertain with laughs and not gore.
Arrow Video's generous Blu-ray release includes an array of bonus materials to enjoy:
"Let the Show Begin: Anatomy of a Killer Song" - an interview with the punk rock band The Dickies, who perform the theme song to "Killer Klowns"
"The Chiodos Walk Among Us" - a documentary with the Chiodo Brothers, who created and directed the movie
"Tales of Tobacco" - an entertaining interview with actor Grant Cramer
"Debbie's Big Night" - an interview with actress Suzanne Snyder
Other featurettes examine the special effects and clown costumes used in "Killer Klowns". All in all, this Blu-ray exceeds expectations in both its high-definition presentation and the special features.
