Judge: Man Can’t Hand out Bibles at Gay Pride Fest

Tuesday Jun 12, 2012

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (AP) - A judge has ruled a Wisconsin man who wants to hand out Bibles at the 40th Annual Twin Cities Pride festival will have to confine himself to a booth just outside of the event.

Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis on Monday denied Brian Johnson's request for an injunction that would force the Minneapolis parks board to allow him unrestricted access to festival grounds.

Twin Cities Pride's executive director Dot Belstler tells Star Tribune ( the ruling is welcome news.

Johnson's lead attorney, Nate Kellum with the Center for Religious Expression, indicates other legal options are being explored.

Johnson, of Hayward, Wis., contends he has distributed Bibles at the annual event since 1995 and that he had no problems until 2009, when the organization refused to rent him a booth.

Think he would want the same freedom if we wanted to hand out condoms and lube at his church?

If he is simply handing out bibles and nothing else, where is the problem? First amendment free association gives the organizers the right to exclude him. But, hes done so without trouble in the past. And gay groups make a mistake in turning themselves into anti-Christian hats groups.

Christians make the mistake in thinking that after all they’ve done to us, we wouldn’t start to hate them as much as they hate us... I put my bible away a long time ago - done

The Bible in the original languages and context is not anti gay. Religiosity uses poor translations and interpritations to persicute a minority, the LGBT community. It is a shame that the LGBT community looks at Christianity as bad thing. I was right there with you staying away from God because of the hate portrayed. With a little research and reading the Bible you will find out how far off these hate full Christians are. Study it out for yourself. god loves you

Well, MY God... is fabulous and told me to have fun, be nice, spread joy and love and dont pay any attention to mean people. He also said the bible, although a good idea at one time, has passed its use by date and should be disregarded entirely.

My objection is never to handing out the Bible. My objection is to those who deliberately misuse the Bible and take material out of context to justify hateful comments and actions they would otherwise be unable to justify.
