Weeds: Season Four
On Showtime's smoking series,Weeds, now available on DVD from Lionsgate, darling drug dealer Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker) leaves suburbia in a blaze for the charming beach community of Renmar, California, just north of the border.
Hiding out from the mess in Agrestic, Nancy moves her family to grandma's house, and takes a nice, quiet job selling maternity clothing. Could the maffiosa of mary jane have reformed her ways?
No such luck. Nancy uses drug money to pay off the boys' bitter uncle, played by the inimitable Albert Brooks, to let them stay at the house. Then, she kills grandma. (The old woman was asking for it).
Later, Nancy's past returns to haunt her-via awful Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), her lesbian daughter Isabelle (Allie Grant), and her pothead CPA (Kevin Nealon).
The beach house is so crowded, Nancy hardly notices when Silas (Hunter Parrish), flexes his muscles and the neighbor lady takes the bait. With Conrad gone, Silas takes over as grower, and begins selling his product in submarine sandwiches.
Sick of his past as a bully's punching bag, young Shane (Alexander Gould) starts school with a bang, and is soon sharing Silas' subs with the other kids at school.
Across town, Nancy finds a hidden treasure as well: In the back of her maternity wear shop is a tunnel. At the end is a dashing mob kingpin who ends up being the mayor of Tijuana-and the father of Nancy's baby.
Also in the tunnel? Celia's out-of-control cocaine habit that has Nancy's pistol-whipping her until Guillermo and the other boys believe the two women are lesbian lovers with boundary issues.
Meanwhile, Uncle Andy (Justin Kirk) dabbles in the coyote business, and falls in love with one of his clients. Nancy also dabbles in saving women, after a cathartic peyote trip makes her unable to handle the faces of the prostitutes Guillermo keeps sending through the tunnel.
She makes a deal with a shady agent to blow the whistle on the whole operation, but it backfires. By the time we reach the 14th episode, Nancy is once again under the gun, this time literally.
Will her baby daddy really blow her away? Are her drug-smuggling days behind her? Will hunky Silas keep banging the cougar next door?
