Disclosed Desires

This is photographer Roberto Chiovitti's first book of photographs, but he has been shooting celebrities and fashion for several A-List magazines, including Vanity Fair and Men's Health.

His experience in the highly competitive world of magazine layouts is apparent here. Chiovitti has devoted the book to men in extreme forms of role playing. But while kinky, the photographs have the studied look of magazine layouts. As such, they put me in mind of Helmut Newton, who first brought a kinky sensibility to the pages of Vogue.

The photos in "Disclosed Desires" feature a variety of men, from thin to thick, musclemen to bears. The settings are down and dirty; many look like abandoned factories or warehouses. There are plenty of close-ups of private parts in various contraptions and sporting some interesting piercings. (I didn't know you could do that to your testicles!)

This book obviously isn't for everyone. If you like your models manicured and your situations pretty, the publisher Bruno Gmünder (also the publisher of this book) offers a great book of beautiful young men in Bali.

If, however, you like to take the proverbial "walk on the wild side," at least vicariously, then this book is for you.

Most people will agree that the guys in this book are hot. Chiovitti shares a sensibility with photographer Michael Aligo, who also has made kink a specialty. Chiovitti, however, offers a broader range of body types.

He says in a one-page that he found many of the models on the street or the Internet. There are also several porn actors in the photos, for a nice mix.

Perhaps in the most radical departure from the raft of male erotic photo books out there, Chiovitti features many men with body hair. Some, as with this man, go way, way beyond the manicured, manscaped men who pass for hairy in most such books.

Chiovitti’s photos include tints, black and white, and color. Many of the color photos look to have been processed to give a vivid effect. As can be seen here, the subsequent photo presents the situation in an almost unnatural glow, which only deepens the sense of other-worldliness that surrounds many of these photos.

Only part of this photo can be shown, but it conveys the extreme situations in many of the photos. Bondage, S/M, fisting (or the implication of it), hard nipple play, and more are all portrayed here. There is one photo of a contraption in water sports that is very kinky indeed.
